New VR missions represent Anomaly's extended modes. You'll have plenty of tools to help you keep your units alive and fighting, ranging from smoke screens that make them harder to hit, decoys that draw fire, and several others.
The action unfolds in real-time, so you're required to think fast as you quickly reroute your units, heal them, and summon new ones. While you don't control your units aside from mapping out their path through the level, you are tasked with making sure that they stay healed and protected as they make their way through the stage. You begin by mapping out a path for your platoon through the area, determining the path of least resistance (or most if you're a powerhouse looking to rack up some combos by taking out more enemies), then keeping a close watch on them when they begin to make their way through the stage. The gameplay is a different brand of tower defense than most players are accustomed to (it's been billed as "tower offense" or "reverse tower defense", descriptions that aren't inaccurate). Your conquest will take you through real-world cities like Baghdad and Tokyo as you make your way through demolished streets and obliterated buildings defeating (or avoiding) any alien units that you encounter. In 2018, Earth is invaded by a threatening species, and you lead a platoon of soldiers tasked with defeating them and sending them packing. The game is fairly light on story elements lacking cutscenes or the like, but the story stems from a tried-and-true alien invasion formula.
